インタビュー★その２ロンドンのおしゃれな紳士服店『ペッカム・ライ（Peckham Rye）』

みなさん、こんにちは。
今日は昨日の”ロンドンのおしゃれな紳士服店『ペッカム・ライ（Peckham Rye）』”インタビューの続きです。

Q.6 What’s your favourite place in Britain and why?

イギリスで一番好きな場所はどこですか？

I am completely fascinated by the Museum of London. Theres the one in the Barbican and then the one over in Docklands. These are the real hidden jewels of London if not Great Britain herself.. The museums are my definite recommendation when people from abroad ask me where they should go whilst here.

『ロンドン博物館（the Museum of London）』に完全にハマっていますね。バービカン地区とドックランズ地区の2ヵ所ににありますが、まるで秘密のお宝みたいな博物館です。ロンドン一、いやイギリス一と言えると思います。海外から訪れる人に滞在中どこに行けばいいかと聞かれたら、迷わずここをおすすめしますよ。

Q.7 If a Japanese person wanted to experience a real British evening out what would you recommend they do?

日本からの観光客におすすめしたい、ロンドンならではの夜の過ごし方と言えば？

I would hope they would do a few things, and what comes to mind immediately is that they should start their evening by standing under the main clock in Waterloo Station, the place of many a romantic encounter, and from there go to the Market Porter pub in Borough for something to eat and then take the short walk to see Southwalk Cathedral, after that walk on a little further and look at the beauty of London from the south side of the river, a gentle stroll over Blackfriars Bridge and carry on towards Ludgate Circus… and when there turn your head to the right… and you will see St.Pauls Cathedral, in exactly the same way I did for the first time, and I hope it will be amongst the most breathtaking and inspiring moments of your life.

そうですね…いろいろありますよ！　今思い浮かぶのは…まずウォータール駅構内の大時計の下で待ち合わせ。ロマンティックな出会いの場所ですよ。

そしてバラ地区の『マーケット・ポーター・パブ』で食事をして、そのあと隣りにあるサザーク大聖堂を見学。

美しいロンドンを眺めながらテムズ川の南側をさらに歩き続けて、ブラックフライヤー橋を渡りラドゲイト・サーカスの方角へ。すると右方には…セントポール大聖堂が見えます。私が初めて見たときとまったく同じ景色です。息を呑むほど感動する人生最高の瞬間を味わえると思いますよ！

Q.8 Brands like Paul Smith, Burberry & Katherine Hamnett are very popular in Japan as is British style in general. Why do you think that might be?

日本ではブリティッシュ・スタイルが好評で、中でもポール・スミス、バーバリー、キャサリン・ハムネットといったブランドが大変人気ですが、その理由はなんだと思いますか？

I like to think that with our styling and detail we add a little bit of a difference to a gentlemans attire…. Albeit inn a quiet and respectful manner.

With our long heritage and tradition in the trade those people who wear and own our pieces are assured that the descendants of the Victorian tailors have maintained all that is correct for a gentleman of today to be confident in his choice.

私たちブリティッシュの独特な流儀とディテールで、一般の紳士服をひと味違うものにしているからだと思います。あくまでもさりげなく控えめな見せ方でね。

Q.9 Martin, I know you’ve been to Japan, what did you like about it? Did you see any similarities with Britain?

マーティンさんは日本に行ったことがあるそうですね。いかがでしたか？　イギリスと似ているところはありましたか？

It took me about three visits to come to terms with the fact that I was actually in Tokyo… I couldn’t believe I was there.. it is an incredible place, I always say to people they haven’t been anywhere unless they have been to Japan…

3度目でやっと「ああ、東京にいるんだな…」と実感できるようになりましたよ！　初めは信じられなくてね…。すばらしいところです。「日本に行ったことがなければ、どこにも行ってないのと同じことだ」と私はよく言うんですよ。

I love the intricacy of Japan. I always come back with lots of ideas and cannot stop talking about things for weeks afterwards.

There is a focus in Japan, in fact with the Japanese people in general I found, that makes it such a great country.

I like the respect people have for each other, and the very traditional family values, these are important to my company and to us here.

I think Japan is a uniqueness… what is great about Japan is that Japan herself is without comparison.

日本の錯雑としたところが大好きです。来日するたびにたくさんアイディアを持ち帰り、帰国して何週間も日本の話が尽きないんですよ。日本にはフォーカス（焦点）がありますね。日本人全体にも言えると思いますが、それが日本を素晴らしい国にしています。お互い敬意を表するところや、伝統的な家族の価値観も好きです。私の会社でも大切にしていることです。日本はユニークな国だと思います。日本の良さは他国にはない独特さです。
